We have 24 hours left of 2014 and my husband and I have been excitedly talking about The Purge. We’re not referring to the movie, but rather the event. We have decided to call our downsizing The Purge. We have given ourselves several deadlines and we are hoping that making do with less will bring some sense of calmness to our lives. Our first goal is to go to Goodwill or Habitat for Humanity’s ReStore and pick up a VERY cheap dresser. Our shirts are presently spending their lives in Rubbermaid tubs on the floor of our closet and it has made things a bit of a disaster area. Once we actually have the closet under control, we are packing up the summer clothes we plan on keeping and boxing up those that we plan on getting rid of. We have designated a metal shelving unit in the garage as the “yard sale” shelf. Everything we are purging before we downsize will be put into a yard sale first, then anything left over will be taken to Goodwill. The yard sale should help us get rid of most of the furniture and some of the knick knacks that we just don’t need anymore while helping us cover the cost of moving.
We have so many random items in our garage that the first thing we need to do is clean out the garage.
I will continue to post as my downsizing journey continues.
Wishing you a happy, healthy, clutter free New Year!
