There is something almost magical about this time of year. The leaves are turning shades of the deepest red and burnt orange and there is a hint of chill in the air that reminds us all that winter is coming. Yes, the snow and the frost are just around the corner. But there is something about this wonderful time of year that puts me in the mood to knit hats, scarves, and mittens. Almost as if my subconscious is saying, “Knit these things now and you and your loved ones can be warm all winter long.” Even this morning as my husband and I left the house to run errands I thought, “A good snug hat would be great right about now.” So I am on the mission for the perfect hat. One made of warm luxury fiber that I can wear with anything. I have noticed a trend of people wearing slouchy hats and they have a certain flair to them. But something tells me one hat will not be enough to satisfy my lust for ear warmth. I am going to have to dig deep, ignore the piles of other knitting I keep swearing I’m going to get done, and knit hats! Striped hats! Slouchy hats! Wool hats! Alpaca hats! Colorful hats! The thought of making so many hats brings a smile to my face. I can knit hats for me, for my husband, for my friends, and for strangers. After all, we are entering the season of giving and what would the cold be like if we didn’t open our hearts and share?
