It’s almost October and with only two and a half months left in the year, I wanted to do a quick update about my experiment. Some things have gone very well, while others…not so much. I promised myself this year would the year I made as much as I could for myself. One of the first things I made that did not work out was deodorant. I still have the tub but the ratio just didn’t work out for me. I have been considering starting over w/that project or simply switching to something like this. But my inner crafter keeps telling me that if someone else can successfully do this, I can too! Another project that eventually fell to the wayside was bread. My bread machine is unreliable at best and I still haven’t found that perfect for sandwiches bread that I’ve been looking for. But this is one that I plan to continue working with. I have a close friend who is also interested in learning to make good sandwich bread and so we will be working closely together this Fall to make some awesome bread. So what I have I done well? I made shampoo! I have also made some good cleaning supplies. And yesterday I figured something out that made me very happy. I made “Febreeze!” Okay, so not quite Febreeze, but close. All I did was add 1 oz of peppermint essential oil and 1 oz of eucalyptus oil to a spray bottle then filled the bottle with water. Ta-da! Instant Febreeze without all the crazy chemicals!
Additionally, I have made candles and have been knitting non-stop. In fact, I have been working on a cabled tunic using leftover yarn from my first sweater. I have come to a stalemate on my current sweater, but think I can fix it. I am also knitting some socks. I have future plans to make my own make-up and shaving cream. I also want to replace my hair care products as I use them. It looks like hair spray and mousse will be the first to go. Make-up may take me a while to get to. Part of my goal with this whole experiment is to use up ALL of whatever I have floating around before I make my own or switch to the organic alternative. By the end of this year, I will be a lot more knowledgeable about the things that are going on and in my body. Here’s hoping you will too!
