I know I haven’t updated the old blog in awhile but things have been so hectic that there hasn’t been time, until today, to sit down and articulate all my thoughts. I am getting married in six days and have been keeping track of all our expenses along the way. We took a short, but amazing, trip to Chicago as a pre-wedding honeymoon. Our schedules just would not allow us to get away with taking a whole week off and so we worked with what little time we had.
Chicago was amazing and as far as honeymoons go, it was pretty cheap. Grand total we spent $617.46 and that included a four star hotel stay with valet parking, all our meals, and extras. (I got some yarn and a sweet Batman shirt, and he got a book he really wanted.) Most people spend thousands on their hotel trip AND because I caught an error on the Hotels.com website, they comped me $50 in the form of a gift card. So it was really like we spent $567.46. We went to the Field Museum, IKEA, a yarn store, a comic book store, and ate a lot of good food. All in all, it was all I could have hoped for. (Pictures to come!)
Our wedding in general has been pretty inexpensive. I read that the average American couple spends around $20,398 on their wedding so ours will seem like a drop in the bucket when it’s all said and done. I spent $350 on my dress, which I cannot show you until AFTER the wedding because my fiancee reads this blog and that’s breaking the rules! Our entire set of rings came from Etsy and cost us $350. My purse also came from Etsy (which I wrote a post about before) and cost $13. Charlie’s tux cost $75 to rent for two days and my Aunt has made me a silk flower bouquet and paid to get my hair professionally done on the day of. I don’t have all the totals for the wedding yet, but if everything goes to plan the day should go like this:
– Wake up, get ready
– Go to courthouse, get married
– Go to photographer studio, get pictures taken
– Eat small snack
– Go see Alice in Wonderland in the theaters
– Go to Steakhouse for dinner
So once I have all the totals calculated, I will report back with it! 🙂
Besides all the wedding madness, I did attempt and fail to knit an entire sweater before the end of the Winter Olympics. I got everything done, seamed it up, but still had the collar to knit before the games ended and it just wasn’t happening. It might have been poor planning on my part, but I had finals during one of the weeks the games were going on and school took precedence over knitting. Oh, well. Maybe next year I will get a sweater done in time!
My next post will have pictures from Chicago plus a wedding update, but I have a house to clean before people start arriving! If they saw my kitchen now, they might freak out. 😉 Happy knitting and hope to hear from you all soon!
