This past weekend I learned how to can fruit and make jam! This whole adventure started when I saw that several of my local grocery stores had peaches for $0.99 per pound. So I decided that a little research was in order. Not long after I made that decision it just so happened that I was at my local farming/tool/awesome store when I found the Ball Blue Book Guide to Preserving. So I picked it up. My boyfriend’s parents happened to have several canning jars and a canning pot on hand so this weekend I bought 12 pounds of peaches, two pounds of cherries, two pounds of strawberries, and 4 stalks of rhubarb. My boyfriend also brought over his personal haul of jalapenos (not pictured). And we canned, and canned, and I made strawberry rhubarb jam! It’s hot work but I feel like it was really worth it! Do you have any canning stories or recipes you’d like to share? Please do so in the comments!
I also started my first lace project on Thursday. Things were off to a bit of a rough start because I’ve never read chart in my life but once I figured out what I was doing wrong (thanks to the latest issue of KnitScene) and Im cruising along on this shawl in the Atoll colorway. Wish me luck!
