Old Fashioned Sour Cream Cookies

30 Nov

Sour Cream Cookies

As promised these are Old Fashioned Sour Cream Cookies! They are so moist and delicious I just know if you try them, you will love them! (Thanks again Grandma!!!!)

Mix together:  1/2 cup soft shorting
1 1/2 cup sugar
2 eggs
Stir in:  a cup thick sour cream
1 tsp. vanilla
Sift together & stir in:
1/2 tsp. baking soda
2 3/4 cup flour
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
Chill for 1 hour.  Drop rounded tsp. about 2″ apart on un greased cookie sheet.  Bake until delicately browned.  Just until when lightly touched with finger, almost no imprint remains.
Bake 400 degrees for 8 to 10 minutes.  Cool.
Frost with a frosting made of lemon juice and powdered sugar.  Enjoy!
*Just a warning: when you mix the confectioners sugar and lemon juice, use the lemon juice sparingly. Otherwise you end up with really sour cookies!!!

The Final Countdown

29 Nov

T-Day is over, Black Friday has faded into the darkness, and Christmas is just around the corner. Writing that sentence makes me panic a little. I have a few projects underway, as well as a looming deadline. I have decided that I have to finish two projects before December 15th if I am going to get everything into the mail and on it’s way to Texas on time. This small revelation, coupled with the fact that my boyfriend took all of my recipes home with him, makes my stress levels kick into high gear. (He took all my recipes to finish typing them up. We are collecting all our recipes that we’ve written down or torn out of magazines, and putting them in one binder.) I was going to dazzle you with a cookie recipe my Grandma sent me, but it is currently out of the house right now. I’m off to do some power knitting then some power cleaning!

Knitting Roll Call

18 Nov

These are all my WIPS and One FO. (Note: All Pattern links are Ravelry links)

In order they are: My 1st Sweater (#08 Slouchy Top by Galina Carroll in Knit.1′s Spring/Summer 2008), Union Square Poncho (Weekend Knits), Irish Hiking Arm Warmers, Lacy Prayer Shawl (Prayer Shawl Companion), Stolen Moments Wrap, Breeze Sock (Knitty, Summer 2007), and last but not least Mitered Square Blanket (Mason-Dixon Knitting).

My goal was to have completely empty needles by January 1st, 2010. Its looking a bit doubtful now.

Cotton

15 Nov

Yesterday, I had some free time at the library and I decided to pick up the latest issue of Spin Off magazine and I came across an article on how to grow and spin your own cotton.

Which got me thinking about my experiment next year. I know that I want to use this opportunity to do as many things for myself as I possible and I really want to be a better spinner. I know that I could buy some of the barrels from my local hardware store that I used to make my rain barrel to grow them in and I found two different kinds of cotton on Local Harvest that I am interested in.

The first kind is Nankeen. It is USDA Certified Organic and it is naturally brown. The breed is from Pre-1860 and they include a history of the cotton with your seed purchase. The second kind is ‘Erlene’s Green’ and is an heirloom cotton. It is not organic, however, it is very rare. It is naturally a shade of light green. According to the seller’s information page, there are also other naturally colored cottons such as yellow and blue available. But I think these two cottons will make a lovely start!

So I can happily add “growing cotton” to my list of things I will be doing for myself! Wish me luck!

Rubber Ducky Your the One

10 Nov

Besides the fact that we should all be celebrating Sesame Street’s 40th Anniversary, I posted that song lyric because I just added some of my hand made soap to my shop! I have some fun holiday shapes as well as bars! It’s something that I am very proud of and I hope you all take a moment to check them out!!

Right

2 Nov

Oh right, I have a blog! Hello! *sigh* Sometimes life just gets hectic and even thinking about looking at the computer makes me want to crawl into bed and sleep for 1000 hours. Do you ever get that feeling too?

Well it is finally November which means it’s time for NaKnitMo (or National Knit Month for those of you not in the know). So I have planned to knit 30,000 stitches in the month of November. I have already knit 1,136! Hurray!!! I hope to keep up that pace but I am scared the holidays will slow me down a bit. All that turkey makes me sleepy…

Speaking of holidays…I need to rant for just one moment. You see here in the US our Thanksgiving is at the end of November. Halloween just ended and stores are already putting up Christmas decorations. Now, I am a huge fan of Christmas but a lot of my local retailers had Christmas items out on display before we could even say “Trick or Treat.” I’m kind of alienated by this. I feel like the 4 major holidays that happen in a three month holiday (Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, & New Years) are all hurdles in and of themselves. I feel like we should be able to savor each one before moving on to the next. I feel like Christmas is being shoved down my throat. I am boycotting Christmas until Thanksgiving is over! (At least by not decorating, I have Christmas knitting to finish!)
